Mitt Romney wins Wyoming caucus vote

Mitt Romney has won Wyoming's presidential caucus vote, a series of county straw polls that took place over the last three weeks.

With 39 percent, Romney finished ahead of Rick Santorum (32 percent), Ron Paul (21 percent) and Newt Gingrich (8 percent). The Wyoming GOP released the final results Wednesday night.

Like Iowa's presidential caucus vote, Wyoming's is not binding and will in no way affect the state's 29 delegates.

Wyoming's caucuses, however, took place over the better part of a month: Counties were allowed to hold their precinct caucuses over a wide range of time, and the first county voted on Feb. 9. If Iowa's caucuses rendered a snapshot of public sentiment in that state, Wyoming has supplied a pinhole exposure.

More media attention will likely be paid to Wyoming's county conventions, held March 6-10, which will directly elect 12 delegates to the Republican National Convention, and to its April state convention, which will elect another 14 delegates. None of those delegates will be allocated (or "bound") to any presidential candidate, though each will have to announce support for a particular candidate or "undecided."
Only 2,108 total votes were cast in Wyoming's precinct caucuses - far fewer than were recorded in any state's GOP primary or caucus so far. Nevada, the next smallest event, saw more than 30,000 Republican votes.
Also like in Iowa, the precinct caucuses served another function, besides recording a presidential-preference vote: electing delegates to Wyoming's later conventions. If Romney's win tonight is any indication, he'll receive more backing than his competitors from Wyoming's unbound national delegates at the GOP convention in Tampa, Fla., this August.

'Blood Money' not an erotic thriller: Mahesh Bhatt

Mumbai, Feb 29 (IANS) The leaked intimate scene from "Blood Money" was not marketing strategy, says Mahesh Bhatt adding that the film does not belong to the erotic thrillers genre like "Murder" and "Jism".

"I am not happy. One of our over-enthusiastic PR person thought that leaking it would benefit the film. But these things send a wrong signal about. I was never apologetic about the kinds of films we make. Like 'Murder' and 'Jism' are erotic thrillers. But, 'Blood Money' is not a product of that profile," the 63-year-old said here while promoting the film at a radio station.
"Because of these wrong signals, people think there is a lot of erotica in the film. Someone who doesn't like watching these kind of films will not come and someone who will come expecting erotica will be disappointed. I think it has done us more harm than good," he added.
Directed by Vishal Mahadkar, "Blood Money" stars Kunal Khemu and Amrita Puri and hits theatres March 30.
Meanwhile, comparisons are being drawn between "Blood Money" and Bhatt's 1986 film "Naam" as both films talk about a middle-class boy who treads the wrong path in his pursuit to earn money.
The filmmaker says that they are similar, but only to an extent as both are about sin-money.
"'Naam' dealt with lower, middle-class Indian dream. Those were the days in 1980s, when everybody thought that if you reach Dubai or Middle-East, you were guaranteed a decent, secure way of life. But this ('Blood Money') deals with a slightly upper strata. It talks about a person who has dreams in his eyes and the world of Rolls Royce and plush homes. But it is all built on something which is sin-money," said Bhatt who is also gearing up for "Jism 2".

It's start of an American movie career for me: Jean Dujardin

Mumbai, Feb 29 (IANS) Jean Dujardin is beaming with joy after winning his first ever Oscar for his performance in black and white silent French movie "The Artist" and says he has work opportunities at home, but this is the start of an American movie career for him.

"I began contemplating a career in acting while serving my mandatory military service. Thereafter, I went on to work in 'OSS 117'. At present I have a lot of opportunity in France, but may be this is the start of an American movie career for me," said Dujardin.
Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, the film swept the prestigious Academy awards with five honours, including best director and best picture.
Here are excerpts from Dujardin's interview:
Q: Does the Oscar matter to you as an actor of such immeasurable talent?
A: I've never concerned myself with the labels people want to put on you. What matters to me is my own estimation, and I'm very tough on myself. I need to be proud of what I've done and I work hard for it.
Q: Did you at all envisage such a massive global popularity for the film?
A: The movie is universal. I knew it would work but I am surprised by the response.
Q: How do you plan to take this sudden surge of superstardom to the next level?
A: To work on another silent movie with Jim Carrey!
Q: What is your next project?
A: Hereafter, I will shoot for "Mobius", a romantic thriller set in the finance world, playing a spy opposite Cecile de France.
Q: How difficult was it to act without dialogues?
A: It's not really different than a sound film. For you, it's silent movie. For us, it's talking movie because we had lines on set. There's a lot of noise on the set and music. We spoke in English, French and in gibberish.
Q: Jean, where do you come from (and I don't mean that in any literal geographical sense) and where are you heading to?
A: I began contemplating a career in acting while serving my mandatory military service. Thereafter, I went on to work in "OSS 117". At present I have a lot of opportunity in France but may be this is the start of an American movie career for me.
Q: How did you bag the role of the pompous but affable silent star?
A: I think the first time Michel told me about the movie was between two takes during the filming of "OSS 117", but I didn't believe him. He gave me the script and I read it in one go and the first thought was that it was gutsy to have pursued his fantasy all the way. But then I was touched by the promise of the project and was really excited to work with Michel again.
Q: What preparations did you make before embarking on the journey charting the decline and redemption of your character George Valentin?
A: I watched a lot of Douglas Fairbanks movies. He always played the same role with a mustache. Zorro had a mustache, the Musketeer had a mustache, Tarzan had a mustache. I watched Gene Kelly for his smile, for his energy, Vittorio Gassman for his movement, Clark Gable for his mustache (laughs) and I watched Lassie who was happy as a dog.
Q: Your association with Hazanavicius goes back a long way. Did that prolonged camaraderie help you get the character so right?
A: ...I think I am some kind of projection of his fantasy of himself as an actor! He knows how to draw you very well, he lights you. This is the third film we've made together. We saw a lot of each other in the meantime, we're friends, but we always feel the need to win each other over.
Q: Are you aware of Indian cinema and actors? Have you watched any Indian films?
A: No.
Q: Any plans of visiting India?
A: Hopefully some day.

US mounts pressure on India, China to stop Iran oil

Washington, Feb 29 (IANS) Asserting that it was going to "to keep an absolute foot on the pedal" the United States says it's having "very intense and very blunt conversations" with India, China and Turkey to make them stop buying oil from Iran.

"Well, I think, with respect to China and Turkey and India, we've had very intense and very blunt conversations with each of those countries,"

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a Senate panel Tuesday

"I think that there are a number of steps that we are pointing out to them that we believe they can and should make," she said when asked about progress made with China, India and Turkey in this respect.

Clinton also suggested that these countries were taking some unspecified actions without publicly talking about the,

"I also can tell you that in a number of cases, both on their government side and on their business side, they are taking actions that go further and deeper than perhaps their public statements might lead you to believe," she said.

"And we're going to continue to keep an absolute foot on the pedal in terms of our accelerated, aggressive outreach to them," Clinton said noting "they are looking for ways to make up the lost revenues, the lost crude oil."

That's a difficulty for a lot of countries besides India, China and Turkey, she said. "So we've had to put together an entire team to try to assist them in thinking through ways of doing that."

Later, Clinton told another senate panel that the US was "implementing the new Iran sanctions aggressively."

"We have been travelling the world, high-level teams from Treasury, Energy and State, to explain what the sanctions are to counterparts around the world."

"We're very frank in these discussions about the requirements of US law," Clinton said. "And we have seen a lot of action. A broad range of countries are making decisions to reduce their dependence on Iranian crude, unwind their dealings with the central bank of Iran."

US, she said, was "also pushing very hard to make it clear that we'll help countries that have a significant dependence on Iranian crude to try to find alternatives.

Falak responding to treatment, still critical: Doctor

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS) Battling for survival at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for over 40 days, two-year-old battered baby Falak is showing good signs of improvement and responding to treatment.

However, the baby remains critical, doctors attending on her said Wednesday.

"Since Monday morning Falak is off the ventilator and till now she has not developed any breathing problems and is breathing on her own. If she continues like this for another two days, we can take her out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," Deepak Agrawal, assistant professor of neurosurgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, told IANS.

"we have stopped administering strong antibiotics, she has not developed any infection, and is responding to the treatment," said Agrawal. With a team of 10 resident doctors, he has been closely monitoring Falak for the past 42 days.
However, the doctors said that Falak is still in critical condition and is not completely out of danger.

Falak was admitted to AIIMS on Jan 18 with a fractured skull, bruises and human bite marks all over her body. She has undergone five life-saving surgeries. A teenager, claiming to be her mother, got her admitted to the hospital.

Another rape in Bengal, victim deaf and mute

BANKURA(West Bengal), Feb 29 (IANS) In another incident of rape in West Bengal, a physically challenged woman was allegedly raped by a junior doctor in a government hospital in Bankura district, police said Wednesday. The national women's panel has taken cognisance of the case.

'We have received a complaint that a deaf and mute woman was raped by a junior doctor of Bankura Sammilani Medical College. The victim was medical examined locally and we are taking her to Kolkata for another medical test,' Bankura Superintendent of Police Pranav Kumar said.

The clothes of the victim and the bed sheets have also been sent for examination.

'We have taken a suo-moto cognisance in the (Bankura) incident and we have asked for a report from the State Government about the action taken in the case,' Mamata Sharma, the NCW chairperson said.

The 19-year-old girl was found lying naked in an unconscious state in the medicine department of the hospital in Bankura, about 150 km from Kolkata, where she was admitted Monday night for chest pain.
Following a complaint by the victim's family, the hospital has constituted a three member committee to look into the allegations.
'We have received a complaint in this regard. It is learnt that the said doctor examined the patient without being accompanied either by female hospital staff or a female attendant of the patient. The probe team will look into the allegations,' hospital superintendent Panchanan Kundu said.
The incident comes at a time when the Mamata Banerjee-led government has been facing flak over rising rape cases in the state.
While an Anglo-Indian woman was raped in the heart of Kolkata-Park Street earlier this month, a ragpicker was Feb 24 allegedly gangraped and then murdered by a truck driver and his helper in North 24 Parganas' Baranagar.

The allegations of rape continued when a woman commuter complained that she was raped by a gang of robbers after she tried to confront them during a robbery attempt in a suburban train near Katwa in Burdwan district.

In another incident, two people were lynched after they were caught raping a woman in East Midnapore Feb 26.

CBI hints at BJP legislator's role in Shehla Masood's murder

Bhopal, Feb 29 (IANS) The probe into the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood may see more arrests as the CBI Wednesday hinted at the possibility of involvement of a Bhopal-based BJP legislator.

CBI sleuths, who had arrested a Bhopal-based interior designer, Zahida Parvez, Tuesday for plotting to kill Shehla, said they hoped to reveal the alleged role of an MLA.

Zahida and another accused, Saqib 'Danger' were produced in a special CBI court in Indore Wednesday. The court remanded them to CBI custody for a week.

Officially, the CBI is tight-lipped about giving out details of the case. Reliable sources said that Zahida hired three contract killers - Irfan, Shanu and Salim - for a sum of Rs.five lakh with the help of Saqib who allegedly acted as a 'middle man'. Saqib and Irfan have been arrested in the case.

Accused Irfan, who was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a Kanpur court, said that initially he was reluctant to target Shehla, a woman. "But she (Zahida) told us that Shehla was a bad woman who was luring many young girls into prostitution."

Irfan's companion Shanu who reportedly shot Shehla in broad daylight Aug 16, 2011 was killed in November last year. Shanu was gunned down by two motorcycle-borne youths outside a local court in Kanpur.

In Bhopal, sources said both Shehla and Zahida were initially friends and then fell out. They were both close to the BJP MLA, currently under the CBI scanner. The sources added that the exact motive behind Shehla's killing seemed to be a combination of rivalry and a love-triangle.

Zahida (35) was allegedly benefiting from her proximity to the local MLA in terms of getting big contracts while Shehla, an RTI activist, sought to "expose" Zahida and her alleged patrons.

Shehla's father Masood Sultan said that he was not aware of his daughter's 'friendship' with Zahida.
